Flash Fiction Friday: Blank Space

Dishes clink. Leather aroma of coffee mixed with fresh baked bread, sautéed garlic and spinach. Impatient scream of steam and froth, another latte born.

Still no words. A blank space where once a story sat, now empty. Waiting.

A shift, a stretch. Neck kinked and knotted from an evening of painful searches, a delve deep within.

Where were the words?

Laughter from the table nearby.

Still nothing. Absence. Void.

Then a glimmer, the sparkle of a crown. A toddler in pink, hand tight in mom’s.

An idea. A smile.

Fingers on keys.

“Once upon a time…”
